IHR Grad Workshop: Transition from Graduate Studies to Academic Job

Event Title:
IHR Grad Workshop: Transition from Graduate Studies to Academic Job
Description:

Presenters:

Kate Jones, Assistant Professor, History

Pranav Anand, Assistant Professor, Linguistics

This workshop will focus on the difficult transition from graduate studies to an academic job. As part of the difficulty is getting a job itself, a large portion of the workshop will deal with aspects of the job hunt, including interviewing, organizing a job talk, and negotiating a contract. The second portion will deal with the intellectual and social challenges that come with a professional appointment, e.g., the costs of relocation, integrating into in a new intellectual community, and the time management demands of increased responsibility.

While this workshop will be geared towards those currently on the job market, students approaching completion are encouraged to attend.
