This workshop will focus on academic career path preparation.  Topics covered include:

II. The publication of one’s research in peer-reviewed journals.  What to expect about this process.  Some common misconceptions.  Strategies for success.

III.  Teaching: teaching assistantships, teaching one’s own courses.  How much? How little? How much variety?  The differences between research universities and teaching universities.

IV. Becoming an active member in one’s own department. Possible forms of service and participation for graduate students in a department.  Large departments. Small departments.

While this workshop will be geared toward students in the early stages of their graduate career, all students are encouraged to attend.
